Description
We have 24 players representing 9 different countries. Each player will be traveling into the city the week of March 9 to compete for a $6,000 prize purse. This is the 5th year hosting this event and we expect it to be an incredible display of competitive squash. Our event is registered and sanctioned by the Professional Squash Association (PSA) from the UK, refereed by Squash Alberta certified referees. Some details: 1) Billet hosting is volunteer community support. 2) Professional players start arriving in Lethbridge early in the week to start the event on Wednesday, March 11 and may need accommodations until Monday, March 16 if they reach the final match on Sunday, March 15. 4) We have 24 international players requiring a place to stay. We have been billeting our players as this provides an exceptional experience for the players being part of the community. 5) The ages of the players range from 15-30 years old. The players through their association (PSA) have strict code of conduct. Over the years, we are amazed how well mannered they are, and all the players are very appreciative of our community volunteers opening our home to them. 6) Billet host requirements: a. Have a separate bedroom with a bed and access to bathroom. b. Internet. c. Provide the billet with 1 meal a day (usually breakfast) d. Transportation, if possible, to and from the courts at the Polytechnic. Other transportation could be an option. We will also have volunteers helping with some transportation as well throughout the event. 7) Host receives an event ticket as well as a ticket for the social night on Friday, March 14 at Hudson’s. 8) Registration for the event closes next week and we will begin assigning players to our hosts at that time.
